After moving to Osaka, Tanaka worked as a graphic designer for the Sankei newspaper and began experimenting with Bauhaus design principles. By 24 years old, he won the Mainichi newspaper’s Industrial Design Prize. In 1960, he and Japanese graphic designer Yusaku Kamekura founded the Nippon Design Centre.
